Ocean View House reaches a milestone

20 years in business

It’s easy to get caught up in work and plans for the future and then miss significant events in the moment. This happened to us recently when we realised we’d passed a milestone of 20 years in business.

When founder Ulrich Plotz bought a 6-room house in Camps Bay back in 1994 he had a dream of creating a guest house, but he could hardly have imagined the transformation and growth that would actually take place. Over the years we’ve slowly added and sculpted and renovated, and the 6 rooms have now become 24 rooms, whilst the garden is a beautifully landscaped park with indigenous trees and koi ponds.

Part of what has enabled us to become established over the years is our constant effort to stay abreast of the latest trends in accommodation and service; for instance, we now have our own tour guide on hand to take guests on sightseeing and cultural experience trips.

Another contributor to our growth has been the passionate involvement of the founder and his family. Ulrich is still dreaming up new developments, while his daughter Katrin and son-in-law Lambert manage the business and take care of guests. Regular visitors know Lambert as Ocean View’s “Master of the Braai”.

Having seen what can be created in 20 years we are really looking forward to what the next 20 years bring. We must just remember to celebrate the date with a proper party!
