What is Loadshedding
Please note, we are currently experiencing “load shedding” in South Africa. It is possible during your stay that you may not experience this at all, however we want you to be informed. This means the National electricity grid is under pressure and to avoid total blackout they cut electricity to certain areas, one after the other over the whole of South Africa.
You will still be able to have a hot shower during these times as your geyser fills itself with hot water. We also do our best to provide lights and Wi-Fi to all our guests during this time via battery backup power, but you can expect the aircon, TV and plug points not to work, as well as the toaster and coffee machine during breakfast.
How Long Does Loadshedding Last
It lasts 2.5 hours at a time. We are in zone 7 and according to the link below which is the loadshedding table, you can check at any time which days and times it will be on. There are different stages and depending on which stage it is then we experience that 2.5 hours once, twice or even three times a day. However, most of the time it will be once in the day and really doesn’t affect much if you just stay aware of when it is.
You will only have the outages at those times and days IF it’s currently “loadshedding”. It starts and ends at any time.
Our government electricity company is called “Eskom” if you want to google any more info, but all the above should be sufficient.
Once again, apologies for the inconvenience but it is out of our hands, wonderful South Africa forcing us to be outdoors :). It’s a precautionary measure they take to ensure it can be stabilized so it needs to happen.
Loadshedding App & Website
It’s very possible that at anytime it can just start and end and there will be no more loadshedding or the stages will drop and you won’t have it anymore, however, best you follow any of that here https://sepush.co.za/ or download the “EskomSePush” app on your phone for instant checking of times or of notifications if loadshedding starts.
Ocean View House is under “Bakoven – Zone 7” on the app.
