How do you start your day?

, How do you start your day?, Ocean View House

If first impressions can tell you a lot about a person, perhaps the first meal of the day truly can set the pace for the rest of your day! At Ocean View House, we believe that it’s not just about what you eat… but how you eat!

How a culture enjoys their food is often a major attraction for travellers and connoisseurs alike. It’s not just the ingredients or the preparation, but how the food is celebrated that draws one in and gets our appetites truly whetted for what is to come.

When it comes to breakfast, it only became the norm for all social classes around the 17th century. During the Middle Ages, breakfast was considered indulgent, usually reserved for labourers or travellers who actually needed the meal to work. Even churches looked down on eating breakfast as gluttony, with men usually ashamed to even partake in the meal at all.

But if we look back further, ancient Romans enjoyed a mélange of wine, honey, and spice to wash down leftovers from the night before, and the pyramid-builders of ancient Egypt topped up on beer, bread and onions before starting their work day.

In the 21st century, we have the privilege of choosing to take our time, and enjoy an impressive choice of delectable options for breakfast – even more so when on holiday.

Whether you’re planning on tackling Table Mountain, cruising Camps Bay or simply lounging by one of the pools on our property – how you start your day matters to us. Pictured above is our newly renovated breakfast room, and it’s designed to help you have a relaxing, calm and nourishing breakfast every single day of your stay with us.

With a gorgeous new honesty bar, you can help yourself, enjoying the same traditions as the ancient Romans and Egyptians, or sticking with the contemporary choices of coffee, tea, juices or sparkling water with your food.

Regularly eating a healthy breakfast helps improve memory and cognitive performance. So if you want to make the most of your vacation or stay-cation – make sure you don’t rush your morgen-mete and relish in the comfort and vacay-vibes of our new breakfast room!
