The 5th annual Street Food Festival hits Cape Town once again providing local cuisine, live music and a buzzing atmosphere.

Street food has its origins in being a quick, convenient and affordable way to satisfy your hunger. However as time has passed, it has slowly garnered popularity amongst all food lovers and is even celebrated at festivals. One such festival is the upcoming Street Food Festival held in Cape Town on 1-2 September.

The selection of food trucks and stalls at the festival are almost endless. Familiar favourites such as Hokey Poké, Beijing Opera, Stack That, Lion Heart and Lotus Food Truck will all be there to provide delicious, proudly South African street food.

Let your nose be your tour guide amidst the aromas of both the sweet and the savoury. Whether you’re a fan of slap chips, gatsbys, koeksisters or good ol’ pap and vleis, there’s something here for everybody. Live music and cold craft beer make the perfect complement to your selection of delicious eats.

The festival, however, isn’t just about good food and music. Veteran food entrepreneurs will be providing free talks to all who attend the festival. This provides up-and-coming restauranteurs and aspiring chefs alike, with sound advice on how they too can turn their love of good food into a successful business.

Speakers at the event include Abdurageem Randall (Dial-A-Koeksister), Bianca Hansen (Toast Ale), Jeremey Barty (Breadrev) and My Kitchen Rules SA’s former contestants Gomotsegang Modiselle and Oginga Siwundla. Since My Kitchen Rules SA (from MNet/DStv), Gomotsegang and Oginga have gone on to open their own restaurant called “The Hot Skillet” and they will no doubt have invaluable advice for young budding entrepreneurs.

The festival kicks off with a launch party on Friday that gets everyone’s body moving and mouths watering in eager anticipation of the 2-day festival. The festival spans Saturday and Sunday with the operating hours being; 5 pm – 9 pm & 11 am – 5 pm respectively.
