Open spaces, friendly faces

More than ever, savvy travellers are seeing the value in experiencing holidays where they can enjoy open spaces and fresh air. Cape Town offers our guests incredible opportunities to explore the great outdoors and enjoy the dazzling natural beauty surrounding us. Our knowledgeable staff are always on hand to guide you through a range of unforgettable outdoor experiences that showcase the best of Cape Town.

From beach and coastal walks to hiking trails and the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens, there’s always plenty to do to nurture your physical and mental health. Just a short stroll from Ocean View House, you’ll find the pristine sands of Camps Bay Beach, a perfect spot to soak up the sun, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, or simply admire the picturesque scenery. Cape Town is a hiker’s paradise, with numerous trails offering spectacular views and diverse terrain. The famous Table Mountain and Lion’s Head are easily accessible from Ocean View House, providing challenging hikes with rewarding vistas. For a more leisurely experience, try the Pipe Track or Oudekraal trails, which meander along the slopes of the Twelve Apostles with stunning ocean views.

A visit to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, ensconced at the foot of Table Mountain, is a must for nature lovers. Stroll through the beautifully landscaped gardens showcasing South Africa’s diverse flora, enjoy a picnic on the lush lawns, or attend a summer concert beneath the stars if you’re visiting in the warmer season.

If you’re heading here soon, our Autumn and Winter months offer equal appeal. Constantia Glen, a local wine estate in the acclaimed Constantia Valley, hosts exclusive dining experiences with their Winemaker, Justin Van Wyk, and new Head Chef, Johann Roux, on the first Friday of every month. Five gourmet courses are paired with a few older, highly sought-after vintage Constantia Glen wines. Spier Seaward Sip & Soup Tasting is happening out in Stellenbosch at the Spier Wine Farm with their delightful four-course soup and wine pairing experience.

We always find that April and May are a great time to explore Cape Town’s famous wine routes, as the vineyards are bathed in beautiful autumn colours. Visit the Winelands in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, or Constantia to enjoy wine tastings, cellar tours, and picturesque landscapes.

Or you can visit the Iziko South African Museum to explore the rich history of indigenous art at this thought-provoking exhibition called The Evolution of Indigenous Art Exhibition and runs from Mar 1 – Aug 31. Cape Town has a vibrant arts scene, and many galleries and museums host special exhibits during this time. Visit the Zeitz MOCAA, the South African National Gallery, or the numerous smaller galleries in the city to immerse yourself in the local art culture.

The crisp autumn air, generous open spaces and ever-friendly faces offer friends and returning guests a holiday experience that will leave any traveller feeling refreshed and revitalised, wanting to return at the next opportunity. If you’re planning a trip soon, or about to arrive on our shores, let us know if any of the above whets your appetite and we’ll help you arrange it.
